Can anyone describe (if any) the physical difference between a Working Line Mali and a Show line Mali

The show lines have their conformation standard set down in writing....so they would all be pretty similar, aned some working Malis may fit that standard.
However, working lines are bred to do that...work, so their appearance doesn't matter quite as much. Also, you'll find that a lot of working Mali's have different breeds in there, way back....some maybe not so way back !!!! My two are both from working lines and look & act like 2 different breeds.

I have often thought of working a Mali. Problem for me is they are so different! Big/Small Light/Dark Long/Short etc etc.
If I could find a big dark one I would deffo consider having one! We have Beckenberry Extreme in our IPO club - Damn he is a good looking fella and works awesome!

He was a good looking dog ... he was a big lad to with a good bone structure and well built. but it didnt effect his mobility and speed. Thats what i do find in a GSD they get quite big but then i think it effects them in speed etc, also makes them look a little clumsy. (still a GSD man through and through) I suggest you tryu living with a Mali before the purchase of one ;D

Hi DD. I would probably agree show lines do tend to be more square..not sure about the small ears though As a Mali owner I have to be realistic and understand that there are other breeds in there...,.as there are in other breeds I suppose....just not as recent perhaps. The show lines are bred to look like a type whereas the working lines are bred with work in mind...whatever the sport. My older bitch is very much a 'type' and wouldn't be mistaken for anything else. My other bitch looks very different and you can see the other breeds in there... some generations ago maybe...but still there. I think if one is wanting a Mali they should research the lines first. As to living with one...... I was once told you can't have a Mali in the house. Bull sh...t I have three (although one is only 8 weeks old) they live in the house, sleep in front of the fire, don't cause any problems (exceppt for the dozen eggs they've just stolen ) and are couch potatoes ....if allowed ;D As an afternote. I recently spoke to a Sgt in the MOD who is in charge of the dog breeding programme. They have a KNPV male and have mated him to two litter sisters from show lines - they are Very HAPPY with the offspring. .. Corinne

Hi I also have a Mali Bitch and in the home she is great regarding being calm, and no trouble but is very grumpy lol, She will growl at the GSD's for just looking at her or walking past her. But she is almost 6 years old, upto 2 years was like living with a complete physco .
Now physical appearance you wouldnt even think she is a Mali but she was the only one that looked like she does.
Ill pop a pic up !!
